Ever since I launched my model train set in early 2021, I have always wanted to mount a micro camera on a train to capture video as it makes the rounds on the set. Weighing video quality, refresh rate, size and battery life, I tested a few micro cameras and they all had an equal share of pros/cons. I went with the QEBIDUM micro camera as it was easy to mount with the provided clip and extremely lightweight and the quality was decent. Here’s a shot of the camera mounted to one of my flatcars.
From there, I placed it on the track to make sure it cleared all of the tunnels and overpasses. The bracket did a good job securing the camera to the flatcar with the ability to tilt it.
Here’s the video of the micro camera in action:
Seeing the miniature world unfold through the camera lens was a revelation. The camera captured every turn, bridge, and tunnel with stunning clarity. I was able to experience the thrill of passing through a tunnel and all areas of the set. I was also able to see areas of improvement, like the light glare as the train passed through the tunnels.
Looking ahead, I have plans to do a mount on the front of the locomotive to get that perspective.
So, if you’re a model train lover looking for a way to elevate your hobby, I recommend considering the addition of this micro camera. It’s a great way to capture the flow of your set.
