Now that solar power has become more accessible and integrated into any powered device, it’s great to see it in action. Case in point is this solar panel for my Ring Stick Up Cam.
Sized appropriately and easy to install, I was able to position it on the backside of the camera. Even with the occasional cloudy day, it remains fully charged at 100% after 4 months in use. Here’s my pros/cons list:
Pros:
- Easy to install and mount on the wall.
- Quick charge as it was fully charged within the first hour of direct sunlight
Cons:
- 13′ cord is really ideal if you need more length. However, if you have a tight space, you have to do some cord management. It would be cool if they had a retractable cord.
- No indication in the app if the panel is charging the camera. You have to rely on the battery health indicator. If it’s pegged at 100%, it’s doing the job.
There are also other panels and solar mounts for the Ring Doorbell, so there are options. It will be interesting to see how other products integrate this alternative form of energy. Now if I can just get one for my air conditioner. 🙂
